Monastery life is alive as never before

Discover Brabant's monastic life

Of the more than 660 buildings in North Brabant that have served as monasteries, 450 still exist, many of which have since been put to other uses. For instance, you can stay overnight, attend retreats, live or work there or they have been turned into a museum. But some are and remain monasteries. Our Monastery Path is a 330-kilometre walking route that leads you in fifteen stages along fifty (former) monasteries, abbeys and inns in Brabant. Beautiful walks have been set out around several monasteries. For instance, we already offer two stages to and from Vessem via Visit Eersel.

Open Monastery Day 15 May 2022

Pilgrimages are topical and an increasingly modern concept, with walks such as those to Santiago de Compostella (which also lead past the Pilgrims' Inn ) becoming increasingly popular among people looking for a piece of inner peace. So it does not necessarily always have to do with faith, but also from faith we see more and more young people going on pilgrimages. The Inn is a place of preparation, a special place to spend the night, a finishing point for youthful pilgrims, a meeting place for returning pilgrims and a resting point on one's life path.

Next Sunday, 15 May 2022, all monasteries in Brabant will open their doors, on Open Monastery Day. The Pilgrims Inn is also participating. During this day, the monastery circular walk, which introduces visitors to the beautiful Vessem countryside, will also be opened.

A tangible memory

To help hikers of Ons Kloosterpad get started, there is a Bindboek. This guidebook connects you with stories, images, reflections and memories of the special places along Our Monastery Path. The book describes the stages. But the binding book also aims to be an inspiration book, with striking facts, appealing art photos and special interviews with people who live and work in the monasteries. The book costs €29.50 and is on sale at various monastery locations and can be ordered via Berne Media. In addition, various souvernirs can be collected on the route. These include the Pelgrimsherberg Kafarnaüm in Vessem. A total of 15 souvenirs can be collected.
