Tumulus grafheuvel / Kaboutersberg
With this special hill comes a special story. This is because on this spot there was a real burial mound around the first century AD. This means that people were buried here. Among them was the wealthy Roman veteran Titus Flavius, the man who also had a chic stone villa built in Hoogeloon. The burial mound was lost, but thanks to a reconstruction it has been back in the landscape since 2012. Today, the mound has living inhabitants: it is now a winter home for bats. But are those bats the only inhabitants? Perhaps not. At least, if a local myth is to be believed. Because according to this folk tale, this hill is home to Kabouterkoning Kyrië and his helpful gnome folk. Not for nothing is this hill also called the Gnome Mountain. Curious what this gnome king looks like? In Hoogeloon you will find a real statue of him.
