De Donk has been a well-known area in Duizel since the 16th century, originally a higher spot in swampy terrain where the Kleine Beerze River originates. In 1862, Francus van Hooff built the pub that grew into the village centre. The Donk and its surroundings used to house farms, a tannery and even a possible public washhouse. The café became the heart of club life, with dance nights, music and teenage love affairs in the 1950s and 1960s.
