The 'saved' of Luyksgestel
When the 15th-century church burned down in 1840, the spire was lost but the tower was saved. A new church was built against it a short time later, but since 1958 the tower has stood alone in the centre of Luyksgestel. This makes this tower the youngest solitary tower.
Martinus is the patron saint of France, soldiers, horsemen, beggars and shepherds, among others.
The tower features a stair tower. In the pavement, you can see the foundations of the former church. Remains of predecessors of stone churches have never been found in most villages. In Luyksgestel, excavations have brought to light remains of an early medieval wooden hall church.
A special animal dwells in this tower!
