Koningkyriepad (the story)
Life was not always good in the Brabant countryside. Farmers had to work hard. And despite all the ploughing, planting and fattening, the poor sandy soil, yielded little. Farms were relatively small. Setbacks like a season that was too wet, often had disastrous consequences. They found comfort and hope in their Catholic faith, as well as in gnome stories. The good-hearted creatures would secretly do chores for a sick or needy farmer. Or was it the mutual solidarity of the neighbouring farmers after all?
