As a little boy of about 14 years old, Bart, owner of Bart’s Wijnkoperij in Eersel, worked all summer holidays to buy one bottle of wine! Proud that he was of his first Château Margaux. The day after marrying the owner Ilse, they enjoyed this Château Margaux wonderfully. So young Bart was already obsessed with wine. Everything he wanted to know, and still is today. That inquisitiveness comes in handy in the profession, because you never stop learning. There are so many wine countries, wineries, grapes and flavours to discover; it keeps surprising. It is a matter of recognising quality wines and then making sure you are seen for yourself. Because there are not a hundred thousand bottles of the real gems available. Those are distributed. Fifty bottles for this restaurant, a thousand bottles for this importer and about ten bottles for that wine specialist. So that's where Bart's strength lies.
